Premier League release statement on Beto offside goal as Everton lose to Southampton

Beto’s late goal in Everton’s loss to Southampton at St Mary’s was offside, according to Premier League confirmation. Minutes after Adam Armstrong’s goal, the forward scored, but a lengthy VAR review resulted in his effort being chalked off.
Prior to Everton’s first loss after five games without a loss, he had previously struck the bar in a spirited substitute appearance. Everton is now four points above Ipswich Town in the drop zone and 16th in the table after Southampton’s first Premier League victory since March 2023.
The on-pitch referee and assistant referee first awarded Beto’s late goal, but Stockley Park officials later overruled it.

The Premier League’s match centre X account posted the following statement: “Beto’s goal was first given on the field. VAR suggested that the goal be disallowed after verifying that Beto was in an offside position.
Everton’s next game is at the London Stadium on Saturday against struggling West Ham, who suffered a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest today.
