Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest look set for a busy end to the transfer window as they look to apply the finishing touches to their respective squads.
The Magpies have made five new signings this summer, while the Reds have brought eight new players to the City Ground.
Both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle will be keen to outperform their results from the previous campaign. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team placed 17th in the rankings, while Eddie Howe’s charges finished outside of the European spots. With just one week until the transfer window closes, clubs will probably be making more transfers.
Among the Premier League teams considering a move for a player who is expected to be let go by an English team that has been relegated are Newcastle and Forest.
Newcastle and Nottingham Forest keen on James Trafford
TBR Football understands that Burnley are ready to let James Trafford leave this month and there is major interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
Trafford almost joined Newcastle earlier this summer, but that move broke down.
However, since then Burnley have bolstered their own goalkeeping ranks with the signings of Etienne Green and Vaclav Hladky and they are ready to allow Trafford to leave.
TBR understands that a number of clubs have spoken to Burnley about a possible deal for Trafford before the window closes.
TBR has been told that Newcastle retain some interest, however, we can also reveal that Forest, Bournemouth, Leicester and Southampton are also keen.
Trafford, who is rumored to have a £30 million price tag, was also previously pursued by Arsenal and Liverpool as a potential number two. Who is James Trafford, the target for Newcastle and Forest?
James Trafford spent time on loan with Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers after rising through the ranks at Manchester City. Burnley acquired the 21-year-old from the Citizens in 2022 for an alleged £19 million.
The Manchester Evening News quoted Lee Carsley as calling the goalkeeper “outstanding.” He immediately established himself as one of England’s rising talents.
Although he was benched for the final ten games of Burnley’s league campaign in favor of the more seasoned Arijanet Muric, Trafford made 28 appearances for the team last year. Making so many Premier League appearances at such a young age, despite losing his first-team berth the previous season, demonstrates what a top talent he is and how bright a future he has. Given this, it makes sense that teams like Newcastle and Forest are considering making a late bid for him.
