£35 million defender wants to join Maresca as Chelsea eye new priority

Who is Enzo Maresca? Chelsea's new head coach | FootballTransfers.com

A £35 million player, who will be competing for his country at Euro 2024, is eager to join Chelsea this summer. He has reportedly become a new priority target for the west London club.

Chelsea is preparing for a busy summer as Boehly aims to acquire multiple defenders.

Following the free transfer of Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, it is believed that Chelsea might still sign another defender.

The west London club could potentially bring in several forwards this summer.

Veteran and fan favorite Thiago Silva left Stamford Bridge on a free transfer to his boyhood club Fluminense. While Tosin Adarabioyo’s arrival will help compensate for this loss, Fabrizio Romano reports that another top defender could join during a busy summer transfer window.

“It will continue to be a busy summer at Chelsea,” said Fabrizio Romano regarding Chelsea’s transfer plans after bringing in Enzo Maresca to replace Pochettino.

“It won’t be completely crazy, but they will try to make smart moves, including acquiring a new goalkeeper. I expect them to aim for at least one new center-back, possibly two.”

Apart from West Ham, Chelsea conceded more Premier League goals than any other top ten side last season, exposing their defensive weaknesses in several games.

There are also doubts about the futures of defenders Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella. Indeed, GiveMeSport reported this week that Chelsea might choose to sell one of them as they plan to bring in a new full-back to replace them.

Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, who will represent Hungary at Euro 2024 starting Friday, has been linked as a potential addition to Maresca’s squad. The 20-year-old made 28 league appearances for Bournemouth last season, drawing interest from top English clubs. It’s believed Chelsea officials have been discussing signing Kerkez behind the scenes.

Kerkez wants to join Chelsea after becoming a priority target.

GiveMeSport reported in the last 48 hours that Kerkez is eager to join Maresca at Chelsea. They also noted that the full-back has emerged as a priority target, with a potential transfer fee of around £35 million to move him from the Vitality Stadium. Kerkez has built a strong reputation and performed admirably last season, despite his young age and the high level of competition.

“Milos is a great boy. A crazy dude, in a good way. He is always positive and smiling,” said former teammate Mat Ryan.

“Hopefully, he can develop even further in England and become even more mature. He is aggressive, powerful, and has so many qualities. A unique skill set. Bournemouth is going to get stronger because of him. Milos still has a great career ahead of him.”
