£50,000-p/w star Martin desperately wants to keep set to leave Southampton

Even if their status in the league is still up in the air, Southampton has already lost out on a player ahead of the summer transfer window, and that player will now likely depart the team at the end of the current campaign.

News about transfers to Southampton

If the Saints win promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs, their summer preparations may take a whole new turn. Currently, they are one victory away from playing Leeds United at Wembley; their opponent this evening is West Bromwich Albion. The Saints will still lose a few important players, including Che Adams, even with that promotion.

The Scotland international’s contract at St. Mary’s is coming to an end, and he will be free to sign elsewhere at the end of the season. This week, he has been linked to both Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. And he’s not the only player that will be leaving.

Southampton forward Che Adams

A few minor adjustments could be made by Russell Martin in preparation for Southampton’s first leg challenge at West Bromwich Albion.

Russell Martin, who hasn’t exactly been shy about his wish to cling onto Brooks, expressed frustration over the decision by saying, via the Bournemouth Echo: “I would sign Brooksy to a contract that he has to stay with me until he retires.”

Premier League calibre, “Fantastic” Brooks

To Southampton’s detriment, Brooks deserves a great deal of credit for his remarkable recovery from illness and for his potential to finish as a regular Premier League player. After earning promotion, the Welshman would have been a perfect first signing, but now that he’s been let go, his last match may be at Wembley or against West Brom.

Martin called Brooks “fantastic,” and with two goals and five assists under his belt already at St Mary’s, he might add to his Southampton record just in time for the play-offs. The Wales international, who is currently 26 years old and in his prime, has finally found his finest form at a crucial juncture and will attempt to regain his spot at Bournemouth the next season.
