QPR and Sunderland lodge bids for 22-year-old with Watford keen

Declan Frith, an attacker for Valencia, is the target of bids from QPR and Sunderland, according to a report from the Spanish news outlet Marca.

This summer, Watford is reportedly interested in signing the winger, and QPR and Sunderland are both eager to bring him to England. But Getafe of La Liga is also interested in signing him and wants to retain him in Spain.

Frith, 22, joined Valencia in 2023 and has since been a key player for their B team over recent times. He made 14 appearances last season, chipping in with a single goal, with his current contract due to run until June 2026.

In this latest update regarding his situation by Marca, the Hoops and the Black Cats have made ‘formal’ approaches for the forward but face competition from Getafe. The pair are eyeing new signings ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Frith started his career in England in non-league with Welling United.

He then had spells with Premier League pair Chelsea and Aston Villa before making the switch over to Spain.

Since then, the Englishman has been playing football with Valencia’s second team in the fourth division of Spain; he has not yet appeared in the first team.

With Getafe, Watford, Southampton, QPR, and others vying for his services throughout this window, they must decide how to go with him.

Before the upcoming season, the three Championship teams may view him as a way to strengthen their offensive units.

Where after now?

Under Marti Cifuentes, QPR was able to maintain their position, and in the next weeks, he will be aiming to add some new players to inject his own personality into the team.

After finishing dangerously close to the drop zone in the previous season, they intend to challenge further up the table this time around.

In terms of Sunderland, Frith would provide them with additional competition and depth on the flank, and they could use some new faces to liven up their ranks.

Regis Le Bris, who left FC Lorient in France, was chosen by the Black Cats to be their new manager.
