As manager Tony Mowbray takes a long leave of absence that ends in the summer, Rowett has been named Blues’ interim manager until the end of the season.With eight games remaining in the season, the team is only eight points above the relegation zone on goal differential, and since Mowbray resigned his position due to health concerns, co-owner Tom Wagner resorted to Rowett.

On Wednesday, Rowett started working with the players on the practice pitch. Additionally, he disclosed to the club that he spoke with Mowbray prior to choosing to come back, during his first day in charge.

“I think that is the right thing to do,” he added. “I spoke with Tony about it and I wanted to make sure I had his blessing and he was part of that process.” “Everyone in the football community is hoping Tony recovers quickly.

“Making sure we are a Championship football club when he returns is a part of my job and goal. I’m willing to take on the responsibility of this role through the end of the season in order to have a significant influence in our own unique manner.

“It was really important to me that Tony was part of that and I had a chance to have that conversation with him.”
