BREAKING NEWS: Wolves eyeing transfer swoop is finally successful

Wolves eyeing transfer swoop for Sheffield United duo

According to a report by Alan Nixon on Patreon for The Sun, Wolves are showing interest in Sheffield United’s Abel Ahmedhodzic and Gustavo Hamer as potential signings this summer. Gary O’Neil, who is part of Wolves’ recruitment team, is reportedly targeting a move for players from Bramall Lane following Sheffield United’s immediate return to the Championship under Chris Wilder.

Sheffield United has been facing challenges in strengthening their squad after relegation, with ongoing takeover issues limiting them to making only two free transfer signings so far: Jamie Shackleton from Leeds United and Sam McCallum from Norwich City.

Despite these constraints, Sheffield United is reportedly close to securing Bournemouth’s Welsh international forward Kieffer Moore and is also ahead of Leeds in the pursuit of Callum O’Hare, who recently left Coventry City.

The potential transfers highlight both clubs’ activities in the transfer market as they prepare for the upcoming season in their respective leagues.

According to Alan Nixon’s report, Wolves are leading the race to sign Abel Ahmedhodzic from Sheffield United, as they view him as a direct replacement for Max Kilman following Kilman’s £40 million transfer to West Ham United. Ahmedhodzic, a Bosnian defender, is highly rated and known for his ability to play the ball out from the back, similar to Kilman.

Sheffield United is reportedly seeking around £20 million for Ahmedhodzic, but they might have to accept a lower fee if their valuation isn’t met later in the transfer window. This potential transfer fee would be crucial for Sheffield United as they look to balance their finances after relegation and potentially reinvest in new signings to bolster their squad for a promotion push in the 2024/25 season.

In addition to Ahmedhodzic, Wolves are also showing interest in Gustavo Hamer, a midfielder from Sheffield United. However, Hamer is just one of several options Wolves are considering.

For Sheffield United, holding onto Ahmedhodzic and Hamer amid Wolves’ interest would be important to maintain squad stability and competitiveness moving forward.

The trials and tribulations of trying to keep hold of prized assets after falling to relegation from the top-flight are often invariable, with clubs routinely being subjected to transfer raids throughout the summer.

Tallying up a paltry return of just 16 points last term, it’s no real surprise to see that a small selection of Blades players have earned the opportunity to potentially stay in the Premier League.

Admittedly, Ahmedhodzic was part of a besieged backline that leaked no less than 104 goals – 2.7 per match – so it speaks volumes of his ability that he’s still managed to attract interest.

He’s clearly an extremely capable defender as we saw in United’s 22/23 promotion campaign and although a £20m offer would be difficult to turn down, they probably shouldn’t entertain much less than that.

Appearances 34
Goals 6
Tackles won 41
Interceptions 62
Aerial duels won 67

Keeping hold of Ahmedhodzic would be a statement of intent by United given his pedigree and proven class in the Championship, which will be crucial if they are to contend for promotion.

As will be keeping hold of Hamer, who was a revelation during his time in the division with Coventry and was genuinely impressive at times last season.
