Newcastle United suffer blow as Celtic prepare to seal next transfer - Chronicle Live

Celtic are on the verge of securing a new goalkeeper, with reports linking them to Kasper Schmeichel, formerly of Leicester City. Schmeichel, aged 37 and a key player for Denmark during EURO 2024, is expected to undergo a medical early next week. His potential arrival at Celtic would mark the end of their pursuit of Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.

Schmeichel is set to replace Joe Hart, who recently retired, as Celtic’s primary goalkeeper. He is currently with Belgian club Anderlecht and is anticipated to sign an initial one-year contract with the option to extend for another year.

Dubravka, meanwhile, finds himself uncertain about his future after Newcastle made changes to their goalkeeping roster this summer. Newcastle has already brought in two new goalkeepers, Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest and John Ruddy from Birmingham City. Nick Pope remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, with Mark Gillespie staying on as fourth choice after signing a new one-year deal. Additionally, Loris Karius has departed the club on a free transfer.

This transfer activity reshapes the goalkeeping landscape at both Celtic and Newcastle United as they prepare for the upcoming season.
