Crystal Palace are gearing up for an active summer transfer window, with plans to strengthen multiple positions within their squad. According to sources cited by Football Insider, the club is targeting signings in four key areas: left-back, right-back, attacking midfielder, and striker.

The rationale behind these moves, as explained by senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, is to bolster squad depth and provide backup options for their current star players. Wing-back positions, currently occupied by Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz as first choices under manager Oliver Glasner, are particularly highlighted due to a lack of sufficient depth.

In terms of striking options, with the anticipated departure of Odsonne Edouard, Crystal Palace will need to secure a deputy for Jean-Philippe Mateta, who excelled in the previous season. Furthermore, the potential exit of Ebere Eze may necessitate the acquisition of a replacement attacking midfielder.

Financially, Crystal Palace are poised to reinvest substantially following the £50 million sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, representing a significant return on their initial £8 million investment from 2021. This windfall is expected to fund improvements across various areas of the squad rather than being concentrated solely on finding a direct replacement for Olise.

Key to their strategic planning has been retaining sporting director Dougie Freedman amidst interest from Newcastle United, ensuring continuity and stability in their transfer approach. With Glasner now settled following his mid-season appointment, Crystal Palace aim to build on their recent success and consolidate their position in the top half of the table.

Palace have a proven track record of success in the transfer window as seen with deals to bring the likes of Eze, Olise, Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi to South London.

They will now look to add to their list of stars and ensure their ambition plans for the future under Glasner can be achieved.
