NEW TARGET: Southampton and Newcastle in a race to Sign exceptional £24m star

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale celebrates a victory.

Premier League clubs Southampton and Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to Football London.

Arsenal’s summer transfer activity has been subdued thus far, with their only notable move being the permanent signing of David Raya from Brentford. Despite the lack of incoming transfers, this offseason holds significant importance for Arsenal following their second-place finish in the Premier League last season. Manager Mikel Arteta’s team narrowly missed out on the title to Manchester City and will be looking to strengthen for the upcoming campaign.

Ramsdale, who has been labeled as “exceptional” by Arteta, could potentially seek a move away from Arsenal in search of regular first-team action, given his current position as second choice behind Raya. Southampton and Newcastle United have emerged as potential destinations for the England international, as per the reports.

I don’t have real-time access to current statistics or updates on Aaron Ramsdale’s 2023/24 season with Arsenal or any recent developments beyond my last training data in January 2022. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on his performance and status at Arsenal, I recommend checking the latest sports news or Arsenal’s official website. If you have any other questions or need information on another topic, feel free to ask!

He returned to Sheffield three years later and, in total, made 46 appearances across his two spells at Bramall Lane. For Arsenal, he has amassed 89 appearances so far and is under contract until 2026, with the option of a further year.

Southampton Could Cover Bazunu Absence

Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu shouts

Southampton’s goalkeeping situation is poised for intrigue as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Last season, Republic of Ireland international Gavin Bazunu was firmly established as the first-choice keeper until he suffered an Achilles’ tendon rupture just before a match against Preston North End towards the end of the campaign. Subsequently, Alex McCarthy took over and performed admirably, including keeping two clean sheets in Southampton’s three playoff matches culminating in their promotion-winning game against Leeds United at Wembley.

McCarthy has now extended his stay at St Mary’s with a new contract, while Mateusz Lis has returned to the club after a successful loan spell at Goztepe last season.

With Aaron Ramsdale reportedly interested in a move but insisting on being the number one choice, it’s likely that one goalkeeper will need to make way to accommodate the England international. Lis appears to be the most probable candidate for departure in this scenario.
