Latest headlines from around the Championship as Preston North End continue their pursuit of more signings
Preston North End is still getting ready for its season-opening match on Friday, August 9, against Sheffield United. The Lilywhites fell to Everton 3-0 in their last match before to their curtain-raiser matchup with the Blades. A week after the season started, the Toffees secured their first victory of the summer thanks to goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jake O’Brien, and Jesper Lindstrom.
Regarding a few of the players who were unable to attend the game over the weekend, Ryan Lowe will need to make a decision. Freddie Woodman, Layton Stewart, and Ali McCann are all doubts. He will provide an update during his pre-game press conference later this week.
Championship clubs are still active in the transfer market in the interim as some look to close deals in front of the upcoming season. This is the most recent information from the second layer.
Norwich City reject Leeds United offer
After supposedly making an offer, Leeds United is ‘nowhere near’ with their appraisal of Jonathan Rowe. The Canaries received a verbal approach of £7 million from the Whites, according to Football Insider, but the two teams have very different opinions on the England under-21 international. After selling Crysenico Summerville to West Ham, Leeds is looking for a new winger, and they believe Rowe might be the guy to take his position. The 21-year-old recently finished a season in which he played in 38 games and recorded 13 goals and 4 assists.
Cardiff City tell Luton Town £10m asking price
Mark McGuiness is available to Luton Town, but his acquisition would cost them £10 million. WalesOnline reports that McGuinness, who joined in 2021, is asking for an eight-figure transfer fee from the Bluebirds. Cardiff feels he is one of the top center backs in the Championship and that he has unrealized potential. He is committed to the Welsh team through the summer of 2027. Cardiff-based sources feel they are well-positioned and don’t need to sell. Luton Town is anticipated to test the market with a cheaper offer despite the asking price.
