After making appearances during the preseason, Adam Hinshelwood has stated that the trialist winger—son of former York great Andy—will not be joining City for financial reasons.
After serving as the Minstermen’s wing player and participating in five preseason matches for City, McMillan sustained a hamstring injury during the 3-3 draw with Darlington.
Although Hinshelwood thinks the 21-year-old lacks regular game time at this point in his career, he did wish McMillan the best of luck in his future ambitions and says the former Leeds United youngster would have given some quality to his group.
Hinshelwood said, “When he went on trial, we thought we may be able to work out an agreement with him, but that hasn’t worked out.
“Unbelievably, we have a budget to deal with, and we have to adhere to it.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to just sign players. Our hope was that one or two would go and free up some cash, but that hasn’t happened.
“We must act in the player’s and the club’s best interests. He has enjoyed training, and we are glad to have him on board.
Max had to take care of himself at some point, and it’s likely that his hamstring strain during that period hindered him.
“What a wonderful young man. I sincerely hope he joins a club and starts playing football soon, as that is ultimately what he needs to do.”
“He needs to go play some games and establish his worth.
“As York boys, we will undoubtedly keep a close eye on him, but we also wish him the best and hope he succeeds wherever he goes.”
Additionally, Hinshelwood declared that the 17-year-old winger Mo Fadera had been brought in for a trial with the first team after the City manager was impressed by the player during the preseason friendly against Garforth Town.
Fadera, who scored a brilliant solo goal against the Minstermen in that friendly, will play for York in a private friendly the following week.
“He’s a York lad again, and his raw pace really impressed us in that game.”
“Mo has been practicing with us for a few days, and we hope to give him a look in our scheduled in-house friendly next week to rule some eyes over.
We’ve completed our work ahead of schedule, reviewed the budget, and are happy with the hiring we were able to accomplish this summer.
“It would be foolish of us to ignore young men who approach our door.”
