Tam McManus was shocked by suggestions that Hibernian could be punished by the Scottish FA after their latest dig on X during Rangers’ 3-1 win at Ibrox.
As Philippe Clement’s side were awarded a penalty, later missed by James Tavernier, the official Hibs X account posted: “Penalty to Rangers. Who had 20 minutes?” which could land them in hot water.
McManus, however, has insisted any punishment for the club would be “mad” as it was simply a bit of fun, telling the SFA they are draining the fun out of the game
Writing in his column for the Daily Record’s print edition [2 April, page 42], McManus shared: “I had to check it wasn’t April Fool’s Day on Sunday when I read that Hibs could be in some trouble for their light-hearted swipe at Rangers’ penalty award.
“Come on, it was just a bit of fun. I read they could be in hot water with the SFA after a post on X. The world has gone mad if that’s the case. Where’s the fun gone in the game? Sometimes you just need to see the funny side of things and move on.”Post-match drama seems to follow Rangers everywhere they go this season. If it’s not a controversial refereeing decision or a strange claim from a pundit, it’s now a light-hearted dig via social media which lights up the newspapers.
Clement and his team, however, will already have moved on. A crucial 3-1 win was delivered, and all focus now turns to the upcoming Old Firm clash against Celtic while all the drama with Hibs and the SFA goes on in the background.
That switch in mentality was displayed by Scott Wright recently as he insisted the team are confident heading into the Old Firm clash despite his personal frustration of having a goal ruled out in the win against Hibs.
Meanwhile, Cyriel Dessers has been warned this could be a deciding week in his Ibrox career and he needs to turn up against Celtic if he wants to keep the Rangers supporters on his side after his frustrating displays this season.
