Saints manager Russell Martin is optimistic about having Ross Stewart and Adam Lallana return from injury later this month. Both players, along with Kamaldeen Sulemana, who featured in pre-season, are expected to be available for the Carabao Cup second round.
Saints will visit Cardiff City in the Championship during the week starting August 26, following their first home Premier League match.
Currently, all three players are not participating in full team training, but Martin told the Daily Echo that they are expected to return to the field next week. He added, “They’ll be back training with the team soon. Their rehabilitation is progressing well, and we hope they’ll be ready for the Carabao Cup game. However, the Nottingham Forest match might be a bit early for them if they only have a few days of training next week.”
Saints are set to host Nottingham Forest on Saturday at 3pm, after a 1-0 loss at Newcastle United in their Premier League opener.
