An injury to Kian Ronan overshadowed King’s Lynn Town’s second home victory of the season.
The Gibraltar international was taken to the hospital after leaving the field on a stretcher around the 60-minute mark due to a collision between players. Despite receiving extended treatment, Ronan was later reported to be conscious and alert before being transported to the hospital.
“He’s gone to the hospital, but he’s responsive and alert,” said Lynn manager Adam Lakeland after the match. “It seems it might just be a case of concussion, so we’ll have to monitor him over the next few days. The players’ reaction from both teams showed how serious it was, and our physio, Liam Bratley, along with their medical staff, responded quickly. It’s always tough when such incidents occur, especially with one of your own players. The main thing is he’s responsive, and I’m confident he’ll be okay. We all wish him well.”
On the field, King’s Lynn secured their second win of the season in a spirited match. Gold Omotayo scored his third goal of the campaign to give them the lead. A contentious penalty tied the game, but Jonny Margetts scored the winner.
Lakeland made three changes to the side that lost to Alfreton, with Josh McCammon, Ronan, and Margetts – returning from suspension – replacing Dylan Crowe, Tommy Hughes, and Josh Coulson, who were named on the bench.
Lynn appealed for a penalty after a Freddie Sass throw-in bounced around in the area, and Josh Hmami’s run into Rushall territory ended with a corner. Hmami’s flag kick was headed in by Omotayo at the near post, similar to their opening day win over Warrington.
Minutes later, Jaden Charles missed a chance from close range, and Paul Jones had to react quickly to prevent an own goal from a corner. Lynn countered with Hmami setting up Margetts, whose shot was saved by Paul White.
In the 32nd minute, referee Declan Brown awarded a penalty to Rushall for a challenge by Ronan on Roddy McGlinchey, and Charles converted from the spot. The game’s tension increased following a 20-man confrontation, and Rushall’s manager Adam Stevens added to the atmosphere with an exuberant celebration.
Lynn nearly regained the lead before halftime, but Greg Taylor headed a corner wide. Margetts then scored, finishing a superb run by McCammon with a precise pass.
Kyle McFadden’s shot from a Hmami corner went over, but Rushall looked more active early in the second half. Ronan’s injury shifted the match’s mood, but there was still work to do.
Omotayo narrowly missed a header from a Rushall cross, and Margetts flicked a cross wide. A spectacular save by Jones denied Brad Bood an equalizer deep into 12 minutes of added time.
