South Shields pairing set for Blyth on loan - The Pitching In Northern Premier League

Blyth Spartans have confirmed the loan signings of Joao Gomes and Dan Savage from South Shields for the upcoming season.

Both players, who are products of South Shields’ academy, participated in last season’s National League North. They also had a productive pre-season with their parent club, each scoring in a 2-1 victory over Consett on July 30.

Joao Gomes, 21, made his senior debut for South Shields during their NPL-winning season in 2022/23, where he played 23 matches and netted four goals. Last season, he appeared ten times in step 2, including a start in the 2-2 draw with Darlington in August.

Steve Howard, Blyth’s Director of Football, commented, “Joao is an exciting addition who will bring speed and high quality to our team. He’s highly valued at South Shields, so we’re thrilled to have him.”

Dan Savage debuted for South Shields last season in a 1-1 draw against Warrington Town. He featured in 11 matches for the Mariners, with loan stints at Hebburn Town and Boldon CA.

On Savage’s arrival, Howard said, “Dan is a young, ambitious attacker with a strong work ethic and excellent attitude. He will add quality to our squad and is another player highly regarded at South Shields, so we’re very pleased to have him.”
