Chris Waddle issues confident Burnley FC prediction

Given Preston’s disappointing start to the Championship season, this appointment needed to be spot-on to prevent the club from heading down a precarious path.

Instead of taking a chance on a young, up-and-coming manager, the club has clearly opted for someone with solid EFL experience, which could be advantageous both in the short and long term.

Preston knows what to expect from Heckingbottom, which adds some pressure, but he also has the capability to bring much-needed stability to the club. While no one is expecting the Lilywhites to secure promotion this season, the fans at least hope to see entertaining football and for the team to be competitive against the Championship’s top sides.

Heckingbottom’s first match in charge will be at home against Luton Town, who have also had a shaky start to the season. It’s crucial for the Deepdale crowd to fully support their team and the new manager on the sidelines.

There have also been some notable departures, including Aro Muric, Wilson Odobert, and Scott Twine, with the potential for more exits before the transfer window closes. Players like Dara O’Shea, Vitinho, Sander Berge, Han-Noah Massengo, and Manuel Benson are reportedly drawing interest from other clubs.

Despite these changes, the Clarets have had an outstanding start to their return to the Championship, currently sitting at the top of the table after winning their first two games of the season, scoring nine goals in the process.

Chris Waddle delivers Burnley promotion verdict

Chris Waddle at White Hart Lane

In an exclusive interview with Football League World, via NewBettingSites.uk, Chris Waddle expressed his confidence that Burnley will secure promotion from the Championship this season, though he acknowledges that the challenge will likely intensify as the campaign progresses.

“I definitely have Burnley going up this year,” Waddle stated. “When asked for my league predictions, I was sure Burnley would make it, but I’m not as certain about Luton.”

He continued, “It’s tough to bounce straight back up after relegation, though some teams manage it. Burnley, despite selling a few players, have made solid acquisitions and I think their squad is strong enough.”

“They’ve already shown they can score goals, which is crucial in the Championship. Nine goals in two games is an excellent start—you couldn’t ask for more.”

Waddle also commented on Burnley’s tactical approach under Scott Parker. “Scott Parker is an experienced manager, and he’ll be pleased with what he’s seeing. They’re not as focused on possession as they were under the previous manager. They’re content to sit back, get behind the ball, and counter-attack effectively.”

He added, “The real test will be whether teams figure them out and avoid leaving gaps that Burnley can exploit. It’s going to get tougher because they’ve started strong, and teams respect them, but right now, their game plan is working.”

In transfer news, Leeds United are interested in signing Million Manhoef and Manuel Benson as they seek to bolster their attacking options.

Burnley form will be concerning for the rest of the Championship

Given Burnley’s remarkable start to the season, it’s hard to disagree with Waddle’s prediction that they will secure promotion this year.

While the Clarets may not be controlling possession as they did under Kompany, Parker’s tactical approach has been highly effective so far, and they boast some of the best attacking talent in the league.

Though some Burnley fans may have had doubts about Parker’s appointment, his track record of guiding teams to the Premier League speaks for itself, and based on early performances, it’s not surprising to think he could do it again at Turf Moor.

With several players being linked with potential transfers, it’s crucial for the Clarets to avoid leaving themselves short in key positions. However, they have considerable squad depth and might even look to further strengthen before the transfer window closes.
