Ipswich Town have made an offer for West Bromwich Albion winger Tom Fellows, as they look to sign another player from the Championship after winning promotion last season.
Tom Fellows of West Bromwich Albion is being pursued by The Tractor Boys for £11 million, per The Sun’s transfer live blog (09:26am). A few top division teams have expressed interest in signing Fellows. Everton and Leicester City have also apparently been monitoring the winger, while Southampton is reportedly considering making a bid of £10 million. With three assists in as many games this season, the 21-year-old has shown promise for West Brom in the Championship. He also created both of goals in the Baggies’ recent away victory over Stoke City.
According to Express & Star, West Brom has stated that they do not plan to sell Fellows during the current transfer window. However, if they receive a suitable offer from a Premier League team, they may reconsider their position.
Ipswich Town are interested in Tom Fellows
Fellows, a 21-year-old attacking player with plenty of space to improve, is one of the most exciting young players in the Championship and is being pursued by Ipswich.
In an effort to assemble a team that can compete in the top division of English football this season, Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna has already added a number of players who have excelled in the second tier during the current transfer window. Along with Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics, and Chiedoze Ogbene, who all made an impression in the Championship last season, they have already added Conor Townsend from the Baggies to their roster this summer.
Hutchinson, Clarke, and Ogbene have already given Ipswich a strong wide-area presence, but McKenna obviously believes he needs another winger to make sure he has enough inventive options for the 2024–2025 campaign.
West Brom want to keep Fellows
It seems that West Brom wants to hang onto Fellows past Friday’s transfer deadline, despite interest from Southampton and Ipswich. Though the sale of Fellows may allow the Spaniard to bring in more players, Carlos Corberan does not want to see the talented winger leave the team. This may be because it may be tough to find a replacement at this point in the transfer window.
It would probably take a sizable bid to finalize a deal for the young player this week because the Baggies are not under any tremendous pressure to sell Fellows, who signed a new contract in January of this year that would keep him under contract until at least 2027. It is not shocking that West Brom does not want to lose another key player as they aim to mount another promotion drive this season, given that they have already sold Townsend, Okay Yokuslu, and Brandon Thomas-Asante this summer.
Ipswich’s offer of £11 million is unlikely to be sufficient to persuade the Baggies to sell their academy graduate, since it was revealed that Albion had no intention of selling Fellows despite rumors that Southampton was preparing a £10 million approach. But, there’s a good probability that one of the interested teams may raise their offer as the transfer deadline draws near and convince West Brom to accept a deal.
