In response to rumors that Philippe Clement’s team has now agreed to a new arrangement to bring another new player to Ibrox this summer, Rangers have begun their deadline day business.
Busy summer at Ibrox to date
Rangers, who lost their opening game and ended up second in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup to Celtic the previous season, are already two points behind the early league pace. Off the field, however, they have been quite busy this summer, bringing in no less than eight new players to Ibrox, the most notable of whom being the permanent signing of Mohamed Diomande and the entrance of FC Twente’s Robin Propper at center defense.
Vaclav Cerny, a highly regarded winger, has also joined the team on loan from Wolfsburg. In just three Scottish Premier League games, the 26-year-old has already scored and assisted. But before the deadline, further work is planned.
When questioned about movement earlier in the week, Clement said, “I anticipate a busy week, but more busy with incoming and a few outgoing.” “I believe that bringing in the right players of the appropriate caliber is the most crucial thing that any team can do. And I am aware that everyone at the club is putting a lot of effort into that.”
And they appear to have done exactly that amid speculations that Rangers are on the approach of adding their ninth new face this summer
Rangers agree deal to sign defender
Now, it has emerged that Rangers have agreed a deal to sign a new defender for Clement in the final hours of the transfer window. That comes courtesy of Dutch outlet 1908 nl, who report that Rangers are set to sign defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo from Feyenoord having agreed a deal with the Eredivisie club and personal terms with the player over a loan move to Ibrox for the 2024/25 campaign.
Though having been mostly deployed as a right back in his career to date, Kasanwirjo is a versatile defender able to play across the backline, which will provide Clement plenty of cover across the entire defence should the move come over the line, while he could also help out in midfield if needed.
Kasanwirjo hit the headlines during his time with FC Groningen, where his performances caught the eye of Feyenoord, who swooped for the then-teenager the following summer (2023). He was seemingly destined for big things, with talent scout Jacek Kulig telling X that Groningen had produced another “great talent”, but his career has stalled somewhat and he spent last season out on loan with Austrian side Rapid Vienna.
The Eredivisie champions appear willing to cut their losses, as the 22-year-old has just three years left on his £8,800 per week contract in Rotterdam. Rangers are now set to pounce for the defender, agreeing to a loan move with a potential option to buy the player should he prove to be successful at Ibrox. Rangers may find that, with his age, adaptability, and obvious potential, he makes a great addition to the team.
