Fabrizio Romano: Spurs turn down Lille’s offer after starting “advanced talks.”

Sergio Reguilon almost certainly has no future at Tottenham Hotspur now, but an approach to loan the full-back was rejected by Spurs earlier in the summer transfer window.

Lille loan rejected by Spurs

The Spaniard has been out on loan from Spurs for the past two seasons, playing for Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and most recently, Brentford. Reguilon has been searching for a move away from the team for the entire summer. He was not named on Ange Postecoglou’s preseason roster.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lille attempted to recruit Reguilon on loan but was unable to reach a deal with Spurs; as a result, they have since moved on to an other target. “Lille agrees to deal with Atalanta to sign Mitchel Bakker as new left back on loan,” tweeted Romano. As far as we know, Lille was in advanced negotiations to sign Sergio Reguilón, but Spurs turned down their loan request.

Reguilon needs to leave

It’s unclear what turned Spurs off—the terms of the transaction or the concept of the loan itself. If a permanent agreement for Reguilon could not be reached this month, the Lilywhites were reportedly open to loan offers, according to a report from Football Insider. The only two Spurs players still on the roster who are set to move are him and Giovani Lo Celso. They are both in the latter year of their contracts. Additionally, Barcelona (Sport via Sport Witness) and other elite Turkish clubs (A Spor) have expressed interest in Reguilon.
