Worthington: No excuses for ‘lethargic’ Glovers

Yeovil Town captain Matt Worthington has stated there will be no excuses for his team’s 1-0 home defeat to Solihull Moors on Tuesday. Conor Wilkinson’s first-half goal was the difference, and despite Yeovil having two efforts hit the woodwork, they failed to register a shot on target.

After the match, Worthington told BBC Somerset’s Mark Stillman:

“It was a tough game. We didn’t really get going; we looked lethargic and slow. It’s disappointing, especially after two wins where we were full of confidence. Losing at home like this is a letdown.”

Yeovil did manage to put the ball in the net late in the game with a Jake Wannell header from a Charlie Cooper free-kick, but it was ruled out for offside. Worthington expressed his frustration with the decision, saying, “I thought it was onside. The linesman didn’t raise his flag for a while, so it was frustrating. We have to move on.”

He added, “There are no excuses from us. We should have been better, and we’ll look to turn it around on Saturday.”

The Glovers have now lost three out of four National League Premier Division games at Huish Park this season, leading to visible frustration among supporters. Worthington acknowledged the impact of the crowd’s reaction, saying, “It’s difficult when there are boos at half-time. We need to feed off the fans, but if we’re not performing and not creating enough chances, it’s hard for them to fully get behind us. It was a disappointing night all around, but we aim to bounce back this weekend.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Altrincham, Worthington is focused on improving the team’s performance: “Every game is tough in this league. We need to prepare properly, rest up, and deliver a strong performance.”
