Heartbreaking: Burnley’s injury crisis worsens as Scott Parker confirms double blow ahead of Leeds United clash

Promotion contenders Burnley have two injury concerns ahead of their upcoming trip to Leeds United. Defender Maxime Esteve and forward Manuel Benson, who was heavily linked with a summer move to Elland Road, both sustained injuries in Saturday’s home draw with rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Esteve and Benson will be evaluated by Burnley’s medical team during the international break as Scott Parker’s squad takes a short pause from the busy Championship schedule before facing Leeds on Saturday, September 14. When asked about their conditions following the match at Turf Moor, head coach Parker said: “I’m not certain at the moment, I haven’t had a chance to speak to them.

“Benny walked off, so I’m unsure how severe his injury is, and Maxime seemed to be struggling with his hamstring, so we’ll have to assess that.”

Key midfielder Josh Cullen missed the weekend’s game due to injury and has been left out of the Republic of Ireland’s squad for their upcoming fixtures. Parker is also without several other players, including Jordan Beyer, Hannes Delcroix, Hjalmar Ekdal, Aaron Ramsey, Enock Agyei, Mike Tresor, and Nathan Redmond.

When asked if any of these players might return after the international break, Parker responded: “Maybe a couple. Enock will likely be back, as he’s been progressing well, so we’re looking at him. Delcroix might also be available after the break, but the others are probably a bit further away.”

Burnley have started the season well, collecting seven points from a possible 12, placing them sixth in the table.

The Clarets were very active on transfer deadline day, signing Jeremy Sarmiento, Zian Flemming, Josh Laurent, and Oluwaseun Adewumi. Both Laurent and former Leeds winger Jaidon Anthony made their debuts against Blackburn.
