Heartbreaking: Mitchell Robinson to miss start of season due to…..

According to Fox Sports NBA reporter Yaron Weitzman, the New York Knicks will be without their expected starting center, Mitchell Robinson, at the start of the season. The 26-year-old is expected to miss at least the first couple of months.

This is a significant setback for the Knicks, especially after their major offseason moves. They acquired Mikal Bridges in a blockbuster trade and re-signed OG Anunoby, but their salary cap constraints meant they couldn’t retain Isaiah Hartenstein, who was crucial last season. Hartenstein signed a three-year, $87 million deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder after playing a key role in the Knicks’ playoff success, particularly with his offensive rebounding and floater game alongside Jalen Brunson.

With Robinson sidelined, there’s speculation that Julius Randle might fill in at center. However, Randle is also recovering from an injury, having missed the last 35 regular-season games and all of New York’s playoff run due to shoulder surgery in April. ESPN’s Chris Herring has noted that Randle could be ready around the start of the season, but it’s not guaranteed.

While the Knicks are deep and talented enough to manage during the regular season, Robinson’s absence will still impact them early on. How head coach Tom Thibodeau handles Robinson’s minutes will be a key storyline. Fourth-year center Jericho Sims is the only other true center on a standard contract, and rookie Ariel Hukporti is on a two-way deal. The Knicks may also explore the trade market for additional depth in the frontcourt.

Robinson’s presence is crucial in matchups against the Sixers, as his size, athleticism, and ability to rebound and defend the rim can give Joel Embiid some trouble. The Knicks open their season against the defending champion Boston Celtics on October 22.
