Breaking News: what Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper has said about their goal-scoring drought as they take on Sutton United tonight.

Yeovil Town manager Mark Cooper has stated that his team aims to end their goal-scoring slump as they face Sutton United tonight.

The Glovers have not scored in their last three matches, prompting Cooper to make four changes following last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Oldham Athletic. Ciaran McGuckin, a loan striker from Rotherham United, and Jordan Young will start on the flanks, while Brett McGavin, who has netted three goals this season, will play in the midfield.

Full-back Michael Smith will miss the game due to a hamstring injury sustained in the second half of Saturday’s match and will be replaced by Dom Bernard. However, Cooper confirmed that the team would stick to their usual formation.

In an interview with BBC Somerset’s Ian Randall, he said, “We typically play a 4-3-3 or a 4-3-2-1. Brett McGavin poses a genuine goal threat, and he’s in the lineup. We need to focus more on our strengths than our weaknesses. Dom Bernard is stepping in for Smith, and he’s a solid replacement. With Ciaran McGuckin and Jordan Young as our wide forwards, we aim to attack tonight and score goals.

“We’ve shown we can be organized and competent; while it’s true we haven’t scored recently, we did score seven goals in two games against Boston United and AFC Fylde before this drought. Our goal now is to achieve consistency and solidity while maintaining a real threat in front of goal.

“We need to address this issue and ensure we don’t become too unbalanced and vulnerable at the back, but we also want to pose a goal-scoring threat. That’s our focus tonight, as we have players capable of attacking the goal, so we’ll see how it goes.”

The manager acknowledged that he had learned from his team’s lackluster performance in the 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors two weeks ago, which followed an emotional 4-3 victory over AFC Fylde.

He added, “I realized that after our incredible win at Fylde, filled with emotion and excitement, we didn’t have any energy when we played again the following Tuesday against Solihull. That’s on me, and I should have made some adjustments. We held a meeting to discuss refreshing the lineup, resulting in four new starters while keeping Saturday’s match in mind.”
