NBA legend and longtime ESPN analyst Bill Walton passed away in May at the age of 71, and the Portland Trail Blazers—the team where he started his pro career—have planned a special tribute to honor him this season.

Throughout the 2024–25 season, the Trail Blazers will wear patches featuring Walton’s No. 32 with a tie-dye background on their left shoulder. The tie-dye design, a signature of Walton’s style, became closely associated with his name.

On March 9, fans can also join in the tribute during Bill Walton Tribute Night, as the Blazers face the Detroit Pistons at the Moda Center. Attendees will receive tie-dye headbands, and all fans are encouraged to wear tie-dye to the game.

During his four seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, Bill Walton played a key role in their 1977 NBA Championship win, where he was named NBA Finals MVP. In 1978, he earned the NBA MVP award and received two All-Star selections. The Trail Blazers later retired his No. 32 jersey in recognition of his contributions. Walton is also an inductee of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

After retiring from the NBA, Walton began his commentary career in 1990. In 2012, he became ESPN’s lead analyst for Pac-12 games.
