Walsall have started their league campaign with three consecutive home wins, a feat last achieved in 2006. That year, the Saddlers went on to secure seven straight home victories, eventually winning the League Two title under Richard Money.

Since joining the club in the summer, the 36-year-old Adomah has quickly won over the home fans. The former Ghana international is relishing every challenge that comes his way.

“I approach every game one at a time,” Adomah said. “Even last season, when I wasn’t in QPR’s first XI, I stayed sharp by playing academy games just to stay fit and be ready for the next opportunity.

“I could have taken it easy and thought, ‘I’m getting paid, so why not just relax and retire’. But instead, I used it as a positive, kept playing, and stayed ready for when a club like Walsall came along.

“It’s paid off. Now, I’m playing against younger players and holding my own, which is great for me.”

Adomah has demonstrated his versatility by playing in various positions, including right wing-back and even as a makeshift striker.

“I’m giving the manager something to think about,” he joked. “I was initially signed as a right wing-back to compete with Connor (Barrett), but now I’m playing up front, as a number eight, and even in holding midfield. It’s great to have that flexibility, knowing I can step in wherever the team needs me.”

Walsall’s impressive draw against Premier League Leicester City in midweek, followed by a narrow penalty shootout defeat, has only boosted the team’s confidence after winning five of their first seven League Two matches.

Having recently made his 700th professional appearance, Adomah has set new personal goals at Walsall.

“I don’t want to limit myself. If I can hit 100 career goals, that would be amazing. I’ve already reached 100 assists, which is huge for me as a winger,” he said. “I’m only five goals away from 100, and I’m hoping the manager will push me as a striker, not a number 10,” he laughed. “Although after missing that open chance against Leicester, he might think twice!”

On the injury front, Jack Earing is working towards fitness after positive scan results on his hamstring injury. Oisin McEntee is expected to return to full training today but remains unavailable for selection. Meanwhile, Josh Gordon (hamstring) and Priestley Farquharson (thigh) are long-term absentees.
