EXCLUSIVE: The England team was revealed, with three stars returning, Gibbs-White being decided, and Harry Maguire being dropped.

England’s interim boss, Lee Carsley, has omitted Harry Maguire from the 25-man squad for the Nations League double header against Greece and Finland. Although Maguire is fit and has travelled with Manchester United for their Europa League tie in Porto, he has not been selected.

Meanwhile, Kyle Walker, who was left out last month, has been given a reprieve. The only new addition to the squad is Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke, who has caught Carsley’s eye with his “attributes I really like”.

Formerly injured players including Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and Cole Palmer have recovered and earned a berth in the team. Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, and Tino Livramento of Crystal Palace, however, are not on the list. Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest is also mentioned.

It’s “important that it wasn’t just a copy and paste job,” according to Carsley, who has claimed that he will only select players who are in form and playing frequently for their teams. He has also stressed that those who were dropped had a legitimate argument for inclusion. “I want players to earn their place,” he continued. It’s merely an opportunity to observe others.” According to the Mirror, Maguire’s lackluster performances for United under Erik ten Hag—the team’s preferred center-back duo being Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez—may have played a part in his omission.

Carsley is not persuaded by Maguire’s recent club performances, despite the fact that he is a regular under Gareth Southgate. In the meantime, Solanke and Ollie Watkins provide Harry Kane, the team’s top scorer, strong support.
