Prior to the Bathurst 1000, the Supercars boss makes a significant decision to sign Daniel Ricciardo.

Daniel Ricciardo has remained quiet since Red Bull fired him last month. However, Supercars authorities have put out feelers to see whether the 35-year-old wants the chance to attempt and conquer Mount Panorama ahead of this weekend’s Bathurst 1000. After 14 years of racing for Red Bull, HRT, McLaren, and Renault, the dynamic driver’s Formula One career came to an end last month. Over the years, the Australian driver rose to prominence in Formula One (F1), but after two seasons of disappointing results, Ricciardo was fired. Young Kiwi Liam Lawson took over for Ricciardo for the balance of the 2024 F1 season.

Supercars chief Shane Howard, however, is anxious to get the iconic Australian driver over to race in the championship or maybe make a special appearance for the Bathurst 1000, so it’s possible he won’t be out of the saddle for too long. Although the majority of rumors regarding the 35-year-old’s future have connected him to a possible transfer to IndyCar or NASCAR in the US, Howard thinks a position on the Supercars grid would entice him to return to Australia.

The driver, who was born in Perth, has experience driving Supercars; in 2016 and 2019, he drove a Triple Eight Commodore at Sandown and a Nissan Altima at Calder Park. Additionally, Ricciardo stated in 2021 that he would be thrilled to have the opportunity to defend the King of the Mountain title at the storied Mount Panorama track. At the time, Ricciardo declared, “I need to drive a Supercar around Bathurst.”

And now Howard wants to make Ricciardo’s wish come true. “If Daniel’s listening, we want you to race here,” Howard said on Thursday.

Isn’t that just wonderful? having a driver with Daniel Ricciardo’s caliber. He has a very strong personality. It would be quite great to have him ride in one of our vehicles. Daniel is cordially invited to attend.

At Monday’s Bathurst 1000 launch, Howard told News Corp. that bringing Ricciardo on board would be a “completely massive” coup. In the event that Ricciardo decides to make the move, the Supercars CEO has great hopes for him.

Howard wants the motorsport superstar to drive a Supercar when the new Perth street circuit opens in 2026, even though a Bathurst 1000 start is in the works. “I think everyone would welcome Daniel with open arms, absolutely,” Howard responded. “How about Daniel Ricciardo driving a supercar? Completely. It would be amazing if he could drive one of our vehicles in a brand-new street race in Perth, wouldn’t it? It would be enormous. “People just adore him, and he has such a fantastic personality and driving ability. Wow, just picture him competing at Bathurst. That would be really awesome.

Howard says he will attempt to strike a deal with the legendary Australian motorsports driver when the time is appropriate, but Ricciardo has not yet disclosed his future course of action. “We would get in touch with Daniel and his management at the right moment. He clearly has a lot going on, and we appreciate that,” Howard remarked. “Blake Friend, a member of his management group, was once employed by Supercars. We would get in touch with him when the timing was appropriate, but we would 100% prefer to have him in one of our automobiles.”
