Weaver played and coached with the Owls for many years, however it was announced at the end of the previous season that he would be leaving his position as Head of Academy Goalkeeping because he wanted to take a break from that aspect of the game.

The club has not yet announced who will take up that position after Weaver went on, but The Star has learnt that Ben Ledger, who previously served as an academy coach, has been promoted internally to take Weaver’s place as head of that department.

With his UEFA B licence for both outfield and goalkeeping coaching, Ledger has worked for teams like Rotherham United and Rochdale. He will now be responsible for assisting Middlewood Road’s upcoming generation of goalkeepers as they aim to emulate former graduates like Joe Wildsmith, Cameron Dawson, and, most recently, Pierce Charles.

The former Harrogate Town goalie has been with the team for over 18 months, so he is familiar with S6 affairs. Now that he is in the position, he will be interested in seeing how players like Jack Hall, Jack Phillips, Killian Barrett, and others develop.

In their most recent Professional Development League match, Wednesday’s U21 team lost 2-1 to Sheffield United on Monday night. They will now have to wait a few weeks before playing competitively again when they visit Fleetwood Town.
