Reece James, a Chelsea star, has returned to the team for training ahead of the trip to Liverpool, making a powerful statement. Earlier this week, the club captain was seen on the training pitch with his fellow Blues. He hasn’t played since May because of injury issues and a ban.
James had to spend the opening few months of the new season on the sidelines following yet another preseason setback. He might have been eligible for the Conference League play-off rounds if his health had been up to par, even though he was suspended for the first three Premier League games.
James, who is now playing with Enzo Maresca, is starting his second season as captain. He is committed to recovering from yet another trying time.
James only started five Premier League games last season, continuing an unwelcome pattern of injury setbacks. This came after a challenging 2022–2023 season in which he made just 16 appearances in the top level.
James hasn’t played at his best for almost two years because of a knee injury he suffered when playing for Thomas Tuchel. According to reports from football.london, returning to Cobham for training is not only a huge morale boost for him but also a reason for Maresca and supporters to be inspired.
Days before the game at Anfield, James shared his progress on social media after being spotted in training photos. He returned to his work after a day, concentrating on his leg tattoo this time.
James has already talked about the emotional toll of spending time recovering rather than playing on the pitch, and the words “I just didn’t quit” are inscribed on his right shin. As he steps up his preparations for his season debut, the 24-year-old is now ready to put his problems behind him.
Later this week, Maresca will give an update on James’ and his team’s preparedness for the match against Liverpool. Every Friday, he usually has a press conference.
In addition, the Italian coach will have to provide information regarding goalie Filip Jorgensen, who was substituted for Denmark’s Under-21 team.The teenage goalie, who has been a midweek regular but has not yet started a Premier League game, is now unlikely to play on Merseyside.
According to manager Steffen Hojer, “It’s crazy how unlucky he is,” following the game. “We have a semi-bad habit of switching goalkeepers, so this [substituting the goalie] wasn’t planned.
“He wasn’t exactly at his best after getting whacked down there. Hojer continued, “I don’t know [exactly] how he’s doing, but we decided to take him out so he didn’t have to go back to Chelsea with something or other.”
