LATEST: Injury update | Sarkisian says WR Isaiah Bond likely to be…

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian on Thursday provided another injury update on receiver Isaiah Bond, who left last week’s 34-3 win over Oklahoma with an ankle injury.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday that the Longhorns’ leading receiver, Isaiah Bond, who sustained an ankle injury during the Oklahoma game, will likely be upgraded from “questionable” to “probable” for their upcoming matchup against No. 5 Georgia on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

Sarkisian noted, “I expect we’ll upgrade Isaiah [Bond] to probable tonight,” referring to the second SEC player availability report of the week, released Thursday night. Sources informed Horns247 that while Bond was in a boot on Tuesday, he was able to practice on both Wednesday and Thursday.

“He’s not going to be 100%, but he should be able to play,” a source told Horns247.

On the SEC coaches’ teleconference, Sarkisian provided a positive update, stating, “He had a good practice today.” The availability report had listed Bond as “questionable,” alongside several other Longhorn players who are confirmed out for the game, including offensive tackle Trevor Goosby, safety Derek Williams Jr., and running backs Velton Gardner, CJ Baxter, and Christian Clark—all sidelined with season-ending injuries.

Texas began the week as a 3.5-point favorite, but that shifted to 5.0 points by Wednesday, according to BetMGM.

Bond, who injured his ankle early in the Longhorns’ 34-3 win over Oklahoma, briefly returned to the game before re-aggravating the injury. He logged one reception for five yards on three targets before exiting. A source told Horns247 that Bond’s injury is “nothing serious” and he’s expected to play against Georgia.

Sarkisian was optimistic earlier in the week, saying, “I feel better about his status today than I did Saturday. We’ll monitor it day-by-day and see where we are mid-week.”

Bond, who transferred to Texas after two seasons at Alabama, is a key playmaker with experience against Georgia. Last season, he caught five passes for 79 yards in Alabama’s SEC Championship win over Georgia, including four receptions during the game-winning drive.

This season, Bond leads Texas in receiving yards (369) and is tied for the team lead in receptions (21) and touchdown catches (3). Bond also contributes to the running game, with two carries for 51 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown.

He has been instrumental in third-down situations and leads the team with nine explosive receptions of 15 yards or more, including a season-high 103 yards against UTSA.

Sarkisian praised Bond, stating, “He’s been a great addition, quickly adjusting to our system and making an immediate impact. His improvement from spring ball to now has been remarkable.”
