During Samoa’s Test tour of England, Talagi opened up about his decision to sign a three-year deal with the Panthers, turning down his junior club Parramatta. He described it as the toughest decision of his life but ultimately could not resist joining Penrith, a team in need of a new halves partner following Luai’s move to Wests Tigers.
“It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made, but I know I made the right one. I’m excited for what lies ahead. Penrith is at the top of their game, and I want to be a part of that,” Talagi said.
With Luai’s departure, Talagi hopes to step into the five-eighth position alongside Cleary, despite spending most of his debut season in the outside backs. He acknowledges the fierce competition from players like Jack Cole and Brad Schneider but is ready to work hard and earn his spot.
Luai, who will captain Samoa in upcoming Tests against England, is expected to offer valuable guidance. Talagi is excited to learn from him, praising Luai’s leadership and influence on and off the field. “Jarome is one of the best in the game, and I want to absorb everything I can from him,” Talagi said.
Luai, in return, spoke highly of Talagi, noting his potential and expressing hope that he can help Talagi reach new heights at Penrith.
