LATEST NEWS: “Leonard Leads, May Moves, Stansfield Out: Birmingham’s Bold XI for Bolton Clash”

Birmingham City host Bolton Wanderers in League One at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Tuesday (7:45pm)

Marc Leonard could be in line for a rare League One start for Birmingham City
Marc Leonard might get a rare start for Birmingham City in League One.

In an effort to keep Birmingham City winning, Chris Davies is anticipated to use his entire roster this week.

The Blues play high-flying Mansfield and Bolton Wanderers, who are in form and will visit St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Tuesday. With maximum points, the Blues would easily reach the 30-point milestone in 12 games.

After a dismal start to the season, Bolton has recovered 13 of the last 15 points available to get back into the picture. Bolton, who have the fourth-highest average in the league, are a team that values possession more than Lincoln, whom the Blues overcame 3-1 on Saturday. Wanderers have an average of five shots on goal (2nd) and 14.1 shots per game (3rd).

Scott Wright and Emil Hansson are also considered doubtful, and the Blues may be without Jay Stansfield for the second straight game.Due to injuries, Davies will be without several additional players.

After saving another penalty over the weekend, Ryan Allsop is guaranteed to start. Out of the three penalties Allsop has faced this season, he has saved two. In lieu of captain Krystian Bielik, Ben Davies and Christoph Klarer have developed a strong rapport in front of Allsop.

After playing 30 minutes at Lincoln, Ethan Laird has recovered from his injury and could start at right-back. Now that Laird is well, Davies anticipates his right-back will run a lot and may give Taylor Gardner-Hickman a break. At left-back, Alex Cochrane will remain.

In midfield, Davies faces a conundrum. During the Blues’ victory at Sincil Bank, Paik Seung-ho appeared rather tired and gave up a careless penalty as a result. In addition to starting Marc Leonard, Davies might also move Gardner-Hickman into midfield. Perhaps this is a good time to give Leonard a few minutes.

Davies needs to recruit a new left-winger because Hansson is anticipated to miss out. If Davies doesn’t choose young Ayumu Yokoyama, Keshi Anderson is the clear choice. Willum Willumsson might reclaim his place on the right as a result.

With two assists on Saturday, Alfie May’s return to the center-forward position paid off, but the Blues have a Scotland international on the bench who is more than capable of filling in. In order to make room for Lyndon Dykes to start, May might revert to a more reserved position.
