A £21m summer transfer target was spotted taking in the Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace game.

The latest Nottingham Forest transfer rumours as a player the club reportedly targeted in the summer was in attendance for Monday night’s home win against Crystal Palace

Goalkeeper Brice Samba of Lens looks to serve the ball
Chris Wood’s second-half goal edged past Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson to settle the score 1-0, moving former Nottingham Forest custodian Brice Samba, playing for current club RC Lens Forest, to eighth place in the Premier League.

The odds were still stacked against Forest, who had to wait until Monday night to take the pitch to answer their opponents following the international break.Morgan Gibbs-White also faced a retrospective punishment, and Nuno Espirito Santo was made to watch the first of three games from the stands.

Henderson was unable to stop the flaming Wood, though, and the hosts won, much to the joy of everyone inside the City Ground. As it happened, the team’s former custodian, Brice Samba, was among those who accompanied Nuno in the stands.

The 30-year-old was seen by Sky Sports cameras there, clearly enjoying a night off following his RC Lens team’s victory over St-Etienne on Saturday. After making 133 appearances across all competitions over his three years in Nottingham, Samba emerged as a fan favourite and ultimately became a key member of Steve Cooper’s team that won promotion.

Unfortunately, he chose to accept a £4 million contract with Lens rather than join the team on their Premier League quest. He would have undoubtedly been pleased with the person who was handed the gloves, as Matz Sels overcame an injury scare to make seven saves while preventing Palace from winning.

However, if rumours had their way, Forest’s goalie last night might have been the Frenchman. At the close of the most recent summer transfer window, The Athletic reported that the club had eyed their former stopper for a possible return to the City Ground, with Transfermarkt valuing him at €15 million (£12.4 million).

I am incredibly proud to serve as Lens’s captain. I’ll remain at Lens if I have to. However, Samba had stated in the months before that “I’m not closing any doors this summer; we’ll see what happens.” In the end, the club brought Carlos Miguel in for £3.4 million and let Matt Turner go on loan to close out the time.
