The Belgian is under mounting pressure after a lacklustre start to the campaign
If the Rangers board decides to replace underperforming manager Philippe Clement, they won’t be deterred by the possible payoff.
Tam McManus believes that the Belgian will have a clause in his contract that reduces the amount he owes after signing a 2028 extension before the season even started. After Rangers’ lacklustre loss to Kilmarnock, which prevented the Light Blues from closing the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen at the Premiership summit after their draw on Saturday, Clement is under more pressure than ever.
With the club approaching a pivotal moment, some worried supporters have demanded that the board take action and fire the manager. Before playing St Mirren in the league this weekend, FCSB will travel to Ibrox for their Europa League matchup. After that, there will be a huge journey to Pittodrie to play Aberdeen, who have never lost under Jimmy Thelin.
Additionally, McManus, a former Hibs player, believes that the club will not be impacted by the money spent on firing Clement. He estimates that if the Gers’ superiors wield the axe, he will receive no more than a year’s pay.
“I don’t think it will be a four-year compensation,” he told PLZ. In my opinion, the majority of managers receive payment within six months to a year.
“If Rangers keep losing games and it becomes a decision they can’t afford to make, I don’t believe that’s a problem. They have a big game coming up on Wednesday—away against Aberdeen. As of right now, Aberdeen is six points ahead of them; if Aberdeen surpasses them by nine points in November, forget about Celtic. I believe he is under a lot of strain.
