After winning two, drawing two, and losing nine of their 13 league games this season, Shrewsbury is now three points outside of safety.

Before defeating relegation rivals Crawley Town 5-3 on the road, the Shrews went seven games without a league victory.

Unfortunately, Shrewsbury has lost back-to-back games and hasn’t been able to improve on that outcome.

Following Jamie Lindsay’s goal in the second half, Shrewsbury lost 1-0 on the road against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday after losing 2-0 at home against Exeter.

The Shrews presently share the third-worst defensive record in the division with Blackpool, having conceded 23 goals in 13 games. This indicates a crucial area for improvement if they hope to escape the bottom four.Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke pictured on August 20, 2024© Imago

Barnsley has won five, drawn four, and lost three of their 12 league games, putting them barely outside the playoffs on goal differential compared to their hosts.

With only one victory in their last five league games (D3, L1), the Tykes have struggled to win lately.

Following back-to-back home draws and a 2-0 loss to Huddersfield Town on the road, Barnsley defeated Blackpool 2-1 at Bloomfield Road to resume their winning ways.

Max Watters equalised in the 95th minute after Luke Berry believed he had scored a stoppage-time winner, making their 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic feel like a victory even if they were unable to claim all the points in midweek.

After defeating Shrewsbury in each of their previous four games, Barnsley will now concentrate on Saturday’s meeting and may be confident in their ability to get the most points.

Due to their individual injury concerns, Shrewsbury is still anticipated to be missing attacker Joshua Kayode and midfielder Jordan Shipley.

Due to his absence from Tuesday’s matchday squad, defender Aristote Nsiala may not play in Saturday’s home game.

George Nurse, who is unlikely to play after being sent out in the first half against Bristol Rovers, could be replaced by Mal Benning.

Josh Benson, a midfielder for Barnsley, has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury and is not available for selection.

Due to an ankle issue, Adam Phillips missed the 2-2 draw with Charlton and is still doubtful for Saturday’s away game.

Josh Earl, a defender, received his fifth yellow card of the season in the middle of the week and will be suspended for one game.
