BREAKING NEWS: Taylen Green Shocking massage to the coach after the national attention…

In the Razorbacks’ second SEC road victory of the season, Green was outstanding. He ran for 79 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and completed 23–30 passing attempts for 314 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. He was the first quarterback from Arkansas to rush for a score and throw for five touchdowns in one game since Ryan Mallett did so against UTEP in 2010. Green is one of just two Power 4 quarterbacks to throw for five touchdowns and carry for a touchdown in a same game this season, along with Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, and his five touchdown passes in a single game tie for second-most nationally. Additionally, it was the thirteenth time in Green’s collegiate career that he had both ran and thrown for at least one touchdown in the same game.

Green was only the fifth quarterback in Arkansas history to throw for five or more touchdowns in a single game, and he became the first quarterback to throw five or more touchdown passes against an SEC opponent since Brandon Allen’s six-yarder in a victory over Ole Miss in 2015. During the victory, the Hogs, led by Green, amassed 673 yards of total offence, surpassing the 600-yard milestone for the third time this season after only doing it four times between 2018 and 2023.

Max Brosmer of Minnesota, Dillon Gabriel of Oregon, Colton Joseph of Old Dominion, Riley Leonard of Notre Dame, Maddux Madsen of Boise State, Marcel Reed of Texas A&M, and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado joined Green on the Davey O’Brien Great 8 Award Watch List.

The oldest and most prominent collegiate quarterback award, the National Quarterback Award, was first given out in 1981, while the Davey O’Brien Foundation was established in 1977. In order to assist high school and collegiate athletes in converting their leadership on the field into leadership in their lives, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants over the years.

As Week 9 Manning Award Stars of the Week, Green was joined by Joey Aguilar (App State), Max Brosmer (Minnesota), Josh Hoover (TCU), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Cooper Legas (Tulsa), Fernando Mendoza (Cal), and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado).

The Allstate Sugar Bowl established the Manning Award in 2004 to commemorate Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning’s achievements in college football. It is the only quarterback award where the balloting process takes into account the competitors’ bowl results. The Manning Award has honoured 519 quarterbacks from 133 schools since it began identifying Stars of the Week in 2011. During the 2023 season, sixty-six players received recognition.

Although 29 quarterbacks were chosen for the Manning Award’s preseason Watch List, more quarterbacks are anticipated to be added as the season progresses. Early in December, finalists will be chosen, and the winner will be revealed after the College Football Playoff National Championship.

This Saturday, the Razorbacks will play No. 19 Ole Miss on ESPN at 11 a.m. at Donald W. Reynolds Stadium. At Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, Arkansas has defeated Ole Miss five times in a row; the most recent defeat occurred in 2008.
