Aberdeen has been cautioned by Duncan Shearer not to underestimate Rangers when they travel to Pittodrie on Wednesday, October 30, in the Scottish Premiership.
Under the lights at Pittodrie, the Dons, who are undefeated in the league so far this season, have the chance to lead an unreliable Light Blues team by nine points.
Despite their recent 4-0 thumping of FCSB in the UEFA Europa League, Shearer believes Rangers remain a threat.
The former striker stated that it would be “dangerous” for the host team to take the Gers lightly, but he does not anticipate Jimmy Thelin and company to be relaxed against them.
Shearer stated in his piece on The Press and Journal on Tuesday, October 29, that “Aberdeen definitely have the form and quality to do it, but Rangers, despite their inconsistency, remain a threat.”
“A home victory at Pittodrie would undoubtedly be Aberdeen’s next declaration of intent, but given Rangers’ difficulties this season, I don’t think Thelin and his team will be complacent.
“Aberdeen has every reason to feel confident going into the match, but it’s risky to undervalue the Light Blues because they’ve proven their mettle in Europe.
“However, the Dons ought to be self-assured and unfazed by the task at hand.”
Rangers find Pittodrie to be a difficult location to visit.
Rangers will have a difficult encounter on Wednesday because Aberdeen has a perfect record at Pittodrie and has won all five of their league games there thus far.
It’s also important to remember that the Light Blues have only triumphed once in their previous four Premiership trips to Pittodrie, with their most recent triumph occurring in December 2022.
Philippe Clement’s team, who recovered from their loss to Kilmarnock on October 20 with victories over FCSB and St Mirren, would therefore much benefit from taking all three points home.
Despite their lacklustre performance in Sunday’s (October 27) 2-1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox, the Gers still have an opportunity to close the deficit with Thelin and company to three points.
While Shearer has maintained his composure in the lead-up to Rangers’ visit to Pittodrie, last week’s preview of the match featured a confident Billy Miller, another Aberdeen great.
In other Rangers news, Tam McManus refuted a recent rumour that Graham Potter was connected to Ibrox with a Harry Potter joke.
