With a point away to Ross County, Hibs are off the bottom of the table, which is good.
However, even though the Hibees improved their defensive play, it wasn’t the best football match.
Junior Hoilett and Jordan Obita gave them chances in the first half as well, but goalie Josef Bursik had to be firm to stop Jordan White from giving the Staggies the lead.
Both teams pumped and huffed during the second stanza, but the quality was lacking.
With the appointment of Josef Bursik Hibs, Grey was validated.
Bursik has been under a lot of fire lately, mostly for his late surrender at Dundee United and his failure to celebrate when Hearts won a derby draw over the weekend.
However, he gave a strong effort today, and his stop from County Striker White was a significant moment that helped make the point.
Grey feels justified in sticking with his number one despite the current performance.
“Yes, absolutely,” he declared after the game. He’s made a huge save at a crucial moment, in my opinion. Both he and the team have faced criticism. I believe that, regrettably, goalies are penalised for mistakes they commit.
“You have a little more leeway as a defender, but it affects the entire squad, and I believe we’ve always stood by each other.
“The group remained very tight, and I believe that because of how close the group is and how hard we are trying to try and fix it, my belief has remained strong throughout difficult moments like these.
“However, from that perspective, he made a huge save tonight, and it was crucial for him.”
Grey identifies the advantages and disadvantages of Hibs
Keeping a clean sheet away from home was a plus for Grey, especially in light of previous defensive outbursts.
Additionally, you should rarely smell at a point in your journey, especially if it puts you at a disadvantage.
However, the manager acknowledges that his team was lacking in quality moving forward.
“I think a clean sheet and a point away from home is never a bad thing, but we know we need more than that with the situation we find ourselves in,” he continued. It seemed a little flat to me, particularly in the first half, which was really flat from our perspective.
It’s about us trying to force ourselves on the players during halftime, when there isn’t much going on and the atmosphere is calm. They shaded the first half, I believe.
“I believe Joe makes a huge stop to give us a footing in the game and maintain us at nil-nil at halftime. The second half’s response, in my opinion, was far better.
“The things I discussed—playing with a little more vigour, being more aggressive, putting ourselves on them, and being more on the front foot—definitely came out.
“We certainly dominated the second half, in my opinion, but the last third, the cutting edge, whether it was the cross, the choice to cross, or the last finish execution, was just lacking in quality. I believe the aggravating aspect of it for me is that it simply wasn’t there tonight.
“But once more, a clean sheet is a nice side effect of the point earned away from home.”
