Breaking News: Max Verstappen slams F1 steward’s ‘Extreme accusations’

In the midst of a continuing dispute concerning driving rules in the sport, a frequent Formula 1 steward has specifically called out Max Verstappen’s father.

The 60-year-old was criticised by Jos Verstappen, a friend of another former Formula One driver Johnny Herbert, for allegedly having a pro-British bias in FIA decision-making.

In response, Herbert told the Dutch publication Formule 1: “Jos is completely mistaken here.

He went on to say, “I really am a big fan of Max.” “I have never seen a better driver than him. However, he then employs strategies like turn 7 in Mexico and turn 4 in Brazil (2021), and I ask myself, “Why?” You are far superior to it.

Herbert also said in separate remarks earlier this week that Verstappen, 27, the triple world champion, had a “horrible mindset” when he was competing for the crown against Lando Norris.

“These are quite extreme accusations,” Max said to the De Telegraaf newspaper prior to the Brazilian Grand Prix.

This week, 1996 world champion Damon Hill, another Brit, went even farther than Herbert, suggesting Verstappen might not even be able to race fairly.

At Interlagos, the Dutch driver retorted, “I don’t listen to these individuals.” “I have won the global championship three times. I believe I understand what I’m doing.

Verstappen said, “To be honest, I have my opinions,” in response to a question about whether he believes the sport, its officials, and commentators treat him unfairly. I don’t have to give them away.

He went so far as to bring out what seem to be blatantly uneven standards by pointing out that Charles Leclerc was unpunished for using the same discretion following the Mexican Grand Prix, yet he was disciplined by the FIA for using the word “f*ck” in a recent news conference.

Verstappen responded, “People who are objective and close to me and not just there to stir …” when asked who he turns to for guidance and support. Since I’ll most likely receive more punishment, I can’t say the term.

After the race in Mexico, someone was cursing, so it seems like it only matters to me anyhow. It didn’t get back to me. So it’s best if I don’t use profanity again.

However, some folks are simply being really obnoxious. And I am aware of who these individuals are. In any case, I don’t really give them much thought.

The McLaren driver insisted on Thursday that he has “no respect” for Max’s driving in Mexico, further straining Verstappen’s friendship with his British title challenger Lando Norris.

“Max is aware of his improper behaviour,” Norris continued. “He has the responsibility to change.”

In addition, Norris disclosed that he has not discussed their run-in in Mexico with Verstappen, stating that it is “not necessary” and that “I don’t have anything to say to him either.”
