On Monday, West Ham United will play Newcastle United in the Premier League when they travel to the North East. It is imperative that West Ham, and more especially Julen Lopetegui, win their Premier League matchup against Newcastle.
Niclas Fullkrug and Mohammed Kudus will not be available for the Hammers to pick for the match against the Magpies, but Edson Alvarez will be back. If West Ham loses badly at Newcastle and/or Arsenal, Lopetegui will be fired. The Spaniard’s departure from the London Stadium won’t come as a surprise, but a victory over the Toon may totally change the tide of events.
Naturally, given Newcastle’s current winning streak, that will be easier said than done. Additionally, it appears that our duty has become little more difficult.
Nightmare confirmed for West Ham ahead of Newcastle clash
Craig Pawson will officiate Monday night’s match versus Newcastle, the Premier League has confirmed on their official website.
In February, the 45-year-old managed our home match against Arsenal. Many Hammers supporters thought Pawson was partly to blame for West Ham’s 6-0 loss. Pawson’s biased officiating helped Arsenal establish a foothold in the match before they ultimately outscored us 6-0 at the London Stadium. While he erupted anytime any West Ham player committed the smallest infraction, he consistently let the Arsenal players get away with dubious challenges.
When Thiago flagrantly handled the ball within his own area during the 2022–2023 Premier League season, the Hammers were denied a late penalty against Liverpool at the London Stadium, and David Moyes was furious with Kavanagh (Sky Sports). After Jarrod Bowen was clearly hauled down inside the area during a match against Liverpool last season, Kavanagh was at it once more when he adamantly refused to give West Ham a penalty at Anfield. He then made the ridiculously poor choice to bench Fabian Balbuena during our loss to Chelsea at the London Stadium back in 2021. We literally lost our Champions League qualifying since the Hammers fell 1-0 that day.
Therefore, it is not ideal that Pawson and Kavanagh will be on duty for our match against Newcastle. We’re hoping that West Ham will defeat Newcastle on Monday, but we’ll definitely have our hands full dealing with the officials who have been confirmed to officiate the game.
