Loan ace dropped: How Ipswich Town should line up for crucial Watford tie

Ipswich Town face Watford in the Championship tonight and Kieran McKenna is dealing with a stretched squad at the business end of the season.

Ipswich Town slipped to 3rd in the Championship table on Tuesday night with nearest rivals Leeds United and Leicester City both in action. However, the Tractor Boys have a great chance to return to the summit.

The Whites were held by Sunderland in an entertaining 0-0 draw while current leaders Leicester lost 1-0 away to relegation contenders Millwall.

McKenna’s side were beaten last time out too though. They lost 1-0 to East Anglian rivals Norwich City at Carrow Road, extending their winless run against the Canaries to 14 games.

There were no fresh blows reported by McKenna in his pre-match press conference (as relayed by the EADT), which will have been a welcome update for fans given some of their recent issues.

Neither George Hirst or Wes Burns will be fit to return here as they continue their recoveries, nor will they play against Middlesbrough. However, they could be in line for returns in the latter stages.

McKenna may well consider resting some recent mainstays after an underwhelming display against Norwich City. The likes of Harry Clarke, Jack Taylor, Ali Al-Hamadi will be knocking on the door but out wide, Omari Hutchinson is one who could drop out.

Jeremy Sarmiento and Kayden Jackson are both options there. Resting the Chelsea loanee a little before the run-in after a streak of starts could be beneficial in the long run.

While the squad is stretched, there are chances to rotate. It remains to be seen if those opportunities are taken though.
