This week at Celtic’s Lennoxtown training facility played host to a coaching convention that drew aspiring coaches from far and wide. The convention allows coaches both established and aspiring to gain valuable knowledge about the inner workings of the game, tactical setup and gain valuable advice from the man himself, Brendan Rodgers.
Part of the course sees the participants come in and observe a full first team training session at Lennoxtown. A window what the Scottish champions do when the cameras aren’t there.
One of the lads from Twenty Minute Tims took part in the training observation on Thursday and noted some interesting and potentially starting XI shaping things.
Central to the day’s discourse was the conspicuous semi-absence of Callum McGregor. The skipper didn’t last the whole session but was out with his teammates for a bit. With only a couple of days before Saturday’s fixture, McGregor’s limited participation will ignite speculation about his availability and fitness. His second half appearance at Ibrox did little to give fans confidence he had turned a corner with his recent injury.
Compounding the mystery was the absence of Daizen Maeda. Fresh off his 21 second Ibrox opener in the latest Glasgow derby, Maeda’s absence from training is noteworthy. With no official word on his condition, the rumour mill churns with theories about his potential absence from the weekend’s match — but we’re keen to stress there could be a variety of reasons the winger wasn’t in attendance.
In contrast, the sight of Luis Palma fully engaged in training was reported. After sitting out the draw at Ibrox due to injury, Palma’s return is a significant boost. His availability for the match against St Mirren is poised could help the bhoys to a vital three points.
