Wolves face Luton Town at Molineux in the Premier League, hoping to bounce back fast after their midweek defeat.
AFC Bournemouth triumphed 1-0 on Wednesday night thanks to an Antoine Semenyo goal.Hwang Hee-Chan’s attempt was controversially ruled out, condemning them to a second consecutive defeat.
Gary O’Neil’s men are at home for the third week in a row, facing Luton Town, who are now in the bottom three. Rob Edwards, who previously played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, needs a win to move out of the relegation zone and above Nottingham Forest.
Wolves now trail the Cherries by two points after missing out on a top-half win. Brighton & Hove Albion can go ahead of them if they win against Manchester City on Thursday. Here’s the most recent injury and team news ahead of kickoff.
Wolves team news
Santiago Bueno is the latest Wolves player to suffer an injury, leaving O’Neill with only two fit centre-backs. Wolves often play with three centre-backs and two wing-backs, but he may be forced to change formation or shift someone to fill in Bueno’s absence.
Bueno suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-0 loss against Bournemouth on Wednesday. He was taken off at halftime despite his desire to continue playing, but the manager did not want him to exacerbate his condition further.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde could return over the weekend. A knee issue has kept him out since mid-March, and he was supposed to return around Easter, but it has taken longer than expected. He has since improved his rehabilitation and may get a chance against Luton.
Noha Lemina, Mario’s brother, suffers a hamstring problem. It is not serious, however, and he was expected to participate in training based on what O’Neil indicated last week. He has yet to make his senior debut for the club, but has appeared on the bench six times.
Pedro Neto returned to training earlier this month and could return before the season ends. He has been sidelined for several months due to a second hamstring injury this season, although a return in mid-May is expected.
Leon Chiwone, a youngster, will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury sustained during training. Craig Dawson, a centre-back, too had his season cut short due to a groyne injury. He underwent surgery last week after playing through pain, but he is currently resting.
The injured list is beginning to wind down a small amount with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nelson Semedo and Mario Lemina all featuring. Matheus Cunha earned himself a place on the bench after being a doubt when Hwang Hee-chan played as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
Craig Dawson, Leon Chiwone, and Pedro Neto are all out. Santiago Bueno, Noha Lemina, and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are all under suspicion.
Luton Town Team News
At least four of Luton’s players; Tom Lockyer, Marvelous Nakamba, Jacob Brown and Amari’i Bell will play no further part this season. Wales center-back Lockyer’s career is currently paused due to a heart arrest versus Bournemouth in December. He expressed his desire to return to the pitch, but additional tests will be required before a decision is made.
Jacob Brown needed surgery for a knee problem. An issue with his cartilage that arose during a training session has forced him to sit out for the time being. Nakamba has been sidelined since December with a knee ailment. Amari’i Bell had an operation for a hamstring problem.
Dan Potts, a former West Ham player, has limited time to make his Premier League debut with the club. He has been on the bench four times but hasn’t been used in the league. Potts will miss this game but might return in May, however there is always a danger with bringing someone back from injury.
Mads Andersen is in a similar position to Potts, albeit having played this season. A calf injury will keep him out for the next four weeks, but he could play in their final two games.
Elijah Adebayo and Chiedozie Ogbene have hamstring injuries and are unable to play this month. However, they are expected to return in May. Reece Burke was substituted at halftime last week due to illness, while Issa Kabore has a foot ailment that needs to be evaluated.
Out are Tom Lockyer, Marvellous Nakamba, Jacob Brown, Amari’i Bell, Dan Potts, Mads Andersen, Elijah Adebayo, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Issa Kabore. Doubt: Reece Burke.
