Caitlin Clark, the most scorer in NCAA Division I history and the first WNBA draft pick, is reportedly signing an eight-year, $28 million contract with Nike.
The agreement includes a trademark shoe and would be the most lucrative endorsement contract for a women’s basketball player.
Other brands, including Under Armour, Adidas, and Puma, were interested in signing Clark, but Nike emerged as the front-runner.
Clark’s original name, image, and likeness agreement ended in 2024. Clark made around $3 million in NIL money throughout her college career, thanks to endorsements from State Farm and Gatorade, among other brands.
Clark’s agents were working on the Nike deal even before she decided to become pro. She was picked by the Indiana Fever and will get a $76,000 rookie salary.
Clark has played a key role in raising interest in women’s basketball, with record viewership for both her collegiate and WNBA games.
The Nike contract demonstrates the sportswear giant’s commitment to Clark, who is projected to have a long and successful WNBA career and possibly compete in multiple Olympics.
Clark’s shoe contract negotiations were very competitive, with firms offering historic bargains to win her over.
Despite early reservations, industry experts feel Clark’s marketability and impact on brands make her an attractive investment for Nike.
Clark ads during NCAA women’s basketball games have proven to be extremely effective.
Clark’s achievements and endorsement potential have cemented her status as a key player in women’s basketball.
The Forehead 5s will sell out hahaha 🤣, but the hoopla will wear away as the WNBA content gets no views. The basketball and courts are smaller, but Rim is the same height as the guys.
I’m delighted she got the bag, but the WNBA will flop.
