Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes an interview with Jay Stansfield after he cleaned up the club’s end-of-season awards
When Jay Stansfield finished his perfect sweep at Birmingham City’s end-of-season celebration, he came to terms with it. He must leave Blues behind due to his relegation to League One.
“I felt sad to be leaving after going up there and realising that my teammates and the supporters had voted for me,” Stanfield remarked.”It’s one of those things; I committed to a season-long loan, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and gained knowledge from it.”
And every second of Stansfield has been cherished by St Andrew’s. Blues fans had hope till the very end of the season because of Stansfield’s goals and bravery in the face of weakness in those around him.
Since relegation became a certainty rather than a possibility a few weeks ago, nobody has been hurting more than Stansfield. Like so few loan players, he wanted to give back to the club and the supporters he connected with.
“I wanted to give my all in every game because I think I’ve just built up such a relationship with the fans and the club,” he said. “Everyone in the club is hurting because we ultimately lost. I believe that the club will soon return to its rightful place. I hope they can continue next season.
Stansfield became an instant sensation after his incredible debut goal against Plymouth, the Blues’ goal of the season, but 12 more goals followed. Last season, he scored a goal while working for five different managers.
“The early goal was helpful,” Stansfield continued. “I could demonstrate to everyone why I chose Birmingham and I had earned their respect on the first day.” There are incredible individuals all around this place, as evidenced by the city, the admirers, and how hospitable and diligent everyone is.
In the unlikely event that the Blues had stayed in the Championship, they would have definitely attempted to entice Stansfield back to St Andrews. Who knows, maybe Tom Wagner and Knighthead are right about Stansfield’s place in the bright future.
He remarked, “We’ll see what happens.” “I’m going to give it my all when I return to Fulham. Right now, it is my team, so I must apply all I’ve learned here to that group. My heart will always belong to the blues.
