Foxes boss Enzo Maresca has been linked away from the King Power Stadium despite sealing promotion.
La Liga side Sevilla are keeping tabs on Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca, it has emerged.
The link comes via the Daily Mail just days after the Italian celebrated a return to the Premier League with the Foxes in what was his first season as a head coach.
Championship standings 2023/24 | ||||

2 | Ipswich Town (P) | 46 | 35 | 96 |
3 | Leeds United | 46 | 38 | 90 |
However, this season hasn’t come without its challenges for the side that eventually won the title with a 97-point haul, as the club’s financial situation has been well documented since the turn of the year.
Enzo Maresca linked with Sevilla job
Days after the season’s last game, a 2-0 home loss to Blackburn Rovers, and the celebrations that followed with the Championship trophy, the Daily Mail reports that Sevilla is keeping an eye on Maresca’s circumstances in the East Midlands in anticipation of a potential managerial change at the Spanish powerhouse.
In addition, the source states that other clubs from England and throughout the continent are allegedly keeping a watchful eye on Maresca in an attempt to sign him during the off-season.
Although Maresca has expressed his happiness with the club, as the story mentions, preliminary discussions on the Foxes’ summer plans and Maresca’s future are reportedly scheduled for the next few days.
It’s important to remember that Maresca was once a member of Sevilla. He participated in over 90 games for ‘Los Rojiblancos’ between 2005 and 2009, winning two UEFA Cups, the UEFA Super Cup in 2006, as well as the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España in 2007.
Maresca seeking financial answers
As a reward for their achievements in the second tier during the season, Maresca and his players are currently on vacation; it remains to be seen if these developments continue in the days ahead.
The Foxes head coach told the BBC prior to the aforementioned final day loss that he is eager to take care of any potential financial issues before the upcoming season begins in the summer.
This comes after they were placed under an embargo by the EFL that will last until June 6th, when they formally re-enter the top flight, and were charged for violating PSR regulations following their £89.3 million loss in the 2022–2023 season, bringing their total losses for the previous three Premier League seasons to over £215 million.
According to Maresca, “We are all happy with where we are going to be,” she said in the BBC.
“We had some issues during the January transfer window, and when people asked about them, I replied, ‘Now is not the moment because we are focused on the target of promotion and then we are going to sit and speak about that at the end of the season,'”
“The same is true with Financial Fair Play; when I signed, no one from the club told me that it would be a problem, and I believe it’s the wrong thing to do. Thus, I would need to take a minute to reflect and comprehend their decision to keep it from me.
After a fantastic season in which he registered 12 goals and 14 assists in 44 Championship appearances, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been linked to Brighton, Tottenham, and Brentford. Leicester may still need to let rid of players before June 30th in order to comply with the EFL’s spending limits.
Leicester City must give Enzo Maresca reassurances
In order to convince their head coach to continue at the King Power for an extended amount of time, Leicester must be able to ensure him that any financial distractions will not negatively affect the team in the long term.
Having said that, it’s clear that the allure of an old club might catch the attention of the Italian, especially given Sevilla’s poor performance in La Liga this year, which has former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores under fire as they lie 12th with four games remaining in the season.
It will be intriguing to see whose dugout Maresca ends up in at the beginning of the following season, regardless of which way the news goes about stating that several clubs have the championship winner on their radar.
