Graeme Souness has made his opinions regarding Marcus Rashford clear!
Rashford was one of the Red Devils’ greatest players last season, as Erik ten Hag led them to an FA Cup final, League Cup victory, and a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The England international scored 30 goals across all competitions, but just eight this season as Manchester United struggled in Europe and the Premier League.
Rashford has endured criticism for his attitude and work rate this season, with a video circulating showing the Manchester United striker appearing to allow Luton’s Ross Barkley to slide past him with little effort in February.
And Liverpool great Souness insists that Rashford’s and other players of Ten Hag’s squad’s weak work ethic would not be accepted “at a proper football club”.
On William Hill’s podcast Three Up Front, Souness questioned whether Bruno Fernandes would be a good fit for Manchester City’s team, despite his potential. He has the qualities to do so, but does he have the motivation to put in the effort? We may never know.
“When I was a player, no one was allowed to not track back; you’d race forward and return even faster; no one was granted a pass.
“I believe that was the case before my time and continues to be the case for the finest teams now. If you’re at a genuine club with proper professionals, you’re doing it in training every day; if not, they’ll come after you. The coach does not even have to say anything; this is what occurs at the top clubs.
“Marcus Rashford’s performance against Ross Barkley in a recent match against Luton suggests he was practicing this in training.”
“If he was doing that at a proper football club, they’d be all over him to the point where there would be fallouts, and if they didn’t learn, they’d think about selling you.”
Rashford is valued at roughly £70 million by Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain are apparently interested in signing him. However, former Red Devils defender Paul Parker believes a move to Paris is not a good idea.
Parker stated to mybettingsites.co.uk that he does not believe Rashford would be a good fit for PSG, given the club has a history of spending excessively on foreign superstars.
“We witnessed that when Neymar and Messi left the club, and they haven’t looked back since.
“They want to buy younger, homegrown players to be the national team or the second national team based in Paris.
“I don’t think Rashford wants to leave United because he’s concerned about what’s outside of Manchester.” All we have seen from Rashford is words. He needs to demonstrate why he wants to stay with United.”
