Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes the thoughts of Blues icon Christophe Dugarry
Christophe Dugarry proclaimed, “I have Birmingham City in my heart,” and vowed to support the Blues in their quest for promotion.
The French World Cup winner returned to B9 over the weekend to compete in BluesFest, where his group of former pros, famous people, and influencers defeated a Barry Fry-managed team.In these parts, Dugarry’s brief tenure at St Andrew’s during the team’s early Premier League days under Steve Bruce is warmly remembered.
Dugarry, who had joined on loan from Bordeaux in January of the previous year, helped Blues win four straight games and guarantee their place in the top division in April 2003 with five goals. Even though his second season at St Andrew’s wasn’t as good, Bluenoses will always have a special place in their hearts for Dugarry.
Following the Blues’ relegation to League One, he visited the Second City, but after speaking with some of Knighthead’s assembled leadership team, he expressed optimism about the club’s future.
“I will carefully study the new project that has fresh management, as I was informed. That makes me very happy,” Dugarry remarked.
“Despite the fact that I only played here for about a year, I do care about this club.” I’m from Birmingham City, therefore I’ll continue to pay close attention to what you guys are up to.
“Hopefully, the team will return to the Premier League.” I’m sure they will because of incredibly skilled individuals. The supporters in this area are deserving of a Premier League team, and I’ve been delighted to communicate with the new leadership.”
