Sam Nicholson says talks the possibility of him signing a deal at Fir Park are being explored
Sam Nicholson acknowledges that he needs a few things to go right before he can play for Motherwell next season.
The 29-year-old, who is on loan from Colorado Rapids, inked a short-term contract in January that will keep him in the United States through December.
After six years overseas, former Hearts midfielder Nicholson intimated that it could be time to move his young family back to Scotland. He still hopes that something can be worked out.
It’s something we’ll discuss with the club, he stated.
“I have repeatedly stated that it will be fantastic if I am here for the upcoming season. It’s a topic under investigation, so we’ll simply have to wait and see.
“I’m going to take a little vacation to unwind and consider my alternatives.
However, I adore it. This is my first time being on loan, and I’ve never been in a better dressing room or with such amazing fans that travel in large numbers to away games.
It’s certainly one of the nicest changing rooms I’ve ever seen, and I don’t just say that because I work here.
“There isn’t a single nasty person among the boys in there.”
“It would settle me in Scotland and that’s important to me as well,” Nicholson remarked upon coming home.
“I’ve spoken with my wife about this, being abroad and taking the little one away from family should probably be done by about now, because the little man’s getting older and he’s going to start school, soon.
“I will give it some thought.”
Motherwell’s 2-1 loss to St Johnstone in their Sunday season finale frustrated Nicholson, who believes the team should aim for the top six next year.
“The game had everything,” he declared. I felt that we got off to a decent start, but as soon as the goal was in, things took a slight turn for the worse.
“But that point I think we needed to get together.
“We didn’t want to end the season the way we did.
“To be fair, they looked good when they countered, but we felt like we were the better team in the second half and should have won more.”
“The season has gone fairly well. Looking back a few games, we could have been in a better position if a few things had gone our way, but that’s football, we have to improve on it and we definitely needed to tighten it up.
“Remaining in the league is important, but Motherwell is a club that, in my opinion, could aspire to be higher, and the club will work towards that.”
